Before Concrete Work Follows Another Trade, Identify the Actual Handoff
A customer may say that another trade is finished when only part of its work is complete. Before a concrete partner schedules dependent work, identify the particular interface that matters and the evidence available for it. A broad statement that the plumber or electrician signed off should not be expanded beyond what the source actually confirms.
Define the dependency in the proposal
Describe the area and preceding work that affect the concrete scope. Ask which event must occur before that scope can proceed: access restored, a separate inspection completed, or another provider’s work documented. Do not infer a technical approval from a payment receipt or the absence of workers on site. The dependency should be understandable without exposing proprietary execution details.
Retain the right source record
Identify the relevant service note, completion record or authorized contact response and its date. Preserve qualifications rather than rewriting it as a blanket clearance. If the source does not answer the specific interface question, ask the responsible party for clarification. Do not direct a customer to obtain an invented certificate or claim that one trade’s statement settles every condition outside its scope.
Confirm the next instruction
Keep the contractor’s current scheduling response with the accepted scope. If the preceding work changes, review the dependency again before treating an old confirmation as current. Where responsibility or technical suitability is disputed, obtain appropriate review through the project process. A good handoff narrows what is known and what remains pending; it does not transfer another provider’s obligations by assumption.
Copyable worksheet
Use one row for each field. Mark unknown information clearly and retain the original records.

|---|---|
| Concrete scope and preceding task | ____________________ |
| Exact dependency to be satisfied | ____________________ |
| Source record and its limits | ____________________ |
| Responsible clarification contact | ____________________ |

Worked example
Illustrative example: a customer reports that a plumbing task is finished, but the concrete proposal depends on access to a specific area. The partner obtains the relevant completion information and checks that interface before confirming its date. A general invoice is retained as a payment record, not rewritten as proof that all concealed or unrelated conditions were approved.
