A Client Asked a Concrete Partner for Radon Work. Keep the Service Boundary Clear

A concrete contractor may receive a request that combines slab repair with an indoor-radon concern. The useful response is a clear statement of the service actually offered and the separate expertise the client may need. Do not let a familiar customer relationship or a network association become an implied certification for a different service.

Repeat the client’s question accurately

Separate the concrete condition, intended room use and radon-testing question in the intake summary. Avoid translating a report of odor into a radon diagnosis; radon has no smell. If the customer has a laboratory report, identify its existence and relevant location without copying unnecessary personal information into a broad contractor discussion. Keep the original report with its authorized recipient.

State what the contractor can confirm

Use the actual company’s verified qualifications and service scope. If radon testing or mitigation is outside that scope, say so and direct the client toward appropriate qualified review. EPA does not support presenting sealing alone as consistently effective radon reduction. Do not improvise a system recommendation or attach a mitigation promise to a concrete finish proposal to keep the sale moving.

Coordinate the interface without taking over

Ask whether the concrete work needs to account for another provider’s access or an unresolved review. Record the responsible contact and the specific question, not an assumed technical answer. Keep separate work in distinct written scopes. A useful partner response can preserve the concrete opportunity while being candid about the limits of the offered service and any decision that must come first.

Worked example

Illustrative example: a client asks a concrete partner to seal a slab and guarantee a radon result. The contractor explains its actual finish scope and asks the client to obtain appropriate radon advice. It records an access question for coordination without claiming mitigation credentials or promising that the concrete service will produce a particular indoor-air reading.
