A Small Repair Does Not Automatically Authorize Dividing a Pre-Proportioned Kit

A crew may need only a small quantity for a localized repair while the selected system arrives as a pre-proportioned kit. The size mismatch is a planning question, not permission to divide components by eye. Before work starts, review the manufacturer’s actual unit and batching requirements with the responsible technical contact.

Distinguish the package from a general bulk material

Identify the system, its components and the current instructions that govern their use. Some manufacturer systems are supplied as pre-proportioned units with instructions referring to complete contents. The cited Sika kit illustrates that category; it is not a recommendation for a particular application or evidence of use on a SlabWorx project. Do not assume that the packaging of one product establishes how another may be portioned.

Ask what the manufacturer permits

If the planned quantity creates a problem, obtain the applicable clarification before dividing, rebagging or combining components. An apparent volume marked on a container does not by itself establish an authorized partial-batch method. Do not substitute a remembered ratio, mixing time or another crew’s practice. This article supplies no proportioning recipe. The responsible personnel should determine whether the selected system and the actual work plan can be used as specified.

Plan the small work around the reviewed system

Consider whether the task can proceed with an appropriate available unit or whether a reviewed alternative is needed. Keep any change within the accepted project process rather than making an undocumented material substitution. Have the relevant handling and disposal arrangements resolved through the responsible site process as well. Saving material is not a sufficient basis for changing a manufacturer-controlled requirement. A clear decision before mobilization can prevent a small repair from depending on an improvised batch whose identity or suitability cannot later be established.

Worked example

Illustrative example: a fictional crew has a localized repair and a larger pre-proportioned kit. It checks the actual instructions and seeks the appropriate decision before changing the unit. The crew does not treat the small work area as permission to split components by visual estimate.
